Riga shipyard was founded in 1913. Shipyard carried out repairs and built small vessels at repairs and the beginning of the 20th century and during Latvian bourgeois period. Breaking ground for the yards took place at the Daugava mouth branch shores connecting the river with rather large lake in the outskirts of Riga. The construction area was an uncultivated territory with small villages in distance. The yards was built quickly enough, and three warships were laid on three building berths with wooden rigging at the time. While building the shipyard, simultaneously with blocks construction submerged and floor deepening works were carried out. World War I and revolution in Russia prevented the yard development - equipment was disassembled, removed and then reassembled. Later on the yards fate was complicated as well: the short period of relative calmness was interrupted by war. Production buildings and constructions were fully ruined, equipment was partially removed during Nazi occupation. After war reconstruction of the yard as a ship-repairing basis began. New shops were elected: housing and boiling, mechanical, foundry. Since 1963 the yards has been under reconstruction process: deep-sea moorings, 5-bay shop unit, coating shops were built; high-capacity floating docks were installed; power supply and storage equipment were improved. In 80-ies the yard was powerful shiprepairing enterprise, the largest one in the Baltic region, that carried out navy vessels repairs, including tankers, gas carriers, container carriers, refrigerators, passenger liners, scientific and research ships. At the same time ship building executed - passenger-car ferries, oil-servicing ships, auxiliary ships left the building mooring. At the present time the shipyard is actively developing and renovating. Vessels of different projects are leaving the building moorings, large ocean-liners are under large-scale repairs. Riga Shipyard is unique in ability to carry out the complete set of repairs of a ship in one water area.
